When a session is useful
A session lets you request that your screen and PC stay awake for a chosen period, such as while viewing a dashboard or following an on-screen reference. Choose only the desktop activities you need: scrolling or keyboard actions can change the active application.
Start with a simple routine
- Download Idle On Duty and activate your paid license in the app’s Subscription screen.
- Select Gentle for mouse movement, Balanced for movement and scrolling, or Custom to choose your activities.
- Review the intervals, then choose a duration. Unlimited means there is no preset session timer; your license still needs to remain active.
- Select Start session. The session can keep running while the app is in the tray.
Pause, stop, and normal Windows behavior
Pause or stop from the app, tray, or a configured global shortcut. When a session pauses, stops, completes, or loses access, its keep-awake request ends. Merely leaving the app open does not keep Windows awake. The app does not change your saved Windows power settings.
What keep-awake does not override
Manual locking, manual sleep, laptop-lid actions, and administrator policies remain in effect. Automatic locking depends on Windows settings and policy, so keep-awake should not be treated as a guarantee against every lock mechanism. Locking pauses a session and requires an explicit resume.
Mouse movement and activity reporting
Mouse movement is one configurable activity; keeping the display awake and a third-party app’s activity reporting are separate behaviors. Review the compatibility information for reported testing results. Use sessions in accordance with your workplace policies.
Offline sessions
Verify your license online before disconnecting. Offline access lasts up to 24 hours from successful verification, capped by the license expiry. Restarting does not extend that window.
